| I planted a holly bush this past spring and thought I had lost it in the extreme temps we had here in West Texas. However, I noticed the other day it has put out new shoots and leaves from one branch.
The bush appears to have two main stems, and one of them definitely appears to be dead. The new growth is from a branch growing from the other main stem. It doesn't look too great with half of the bush dead. Should I cut it back to just one main stem and the new growth, or not? |

| in that condition it may grow back a little, but by next summer it'll probably die back. imho, not worth the effort to prune and water it. most nurseries are having 70% off sales. you can probably get another one for a few dollars and replace the current one. water it and take care of it and it'll probably do much better than your current one. |

| Okay, thanks; hadn't thought of that. I may try it. It started off pretty good, but being a transplant, it had a really hard time in the heat this summer. I couldn't keep enough water on it. Maybe if I plant another one now, it might have time to get established a little before next summer. |
