I planted it in an area where it gets water from our aerobic sprinkler system and it took over the bed. Also more like 3' tall.

Might be OK in an area that doesn't get water Bees do love it. I'm probably going to dig some this winter and move it and see if I can live with it somewhere else.

Here in Arkansas, it takes pretty large chunks of the corners of fields. Bumbles like it...and I don't dislike it...though I wouldn't plant it in a bed setting..only a naturalized one.

Thanks - they've been staying small (1-1.5 ft), but multiplying in our heavily shaded irrigated bed ... so was concerned about them taking over as you warn. In the sunny unirrigated bed, they get much taller and broader (~3 ft), but don't seem to multiply as much. Since the small mostly unbranched shady version seems to fit nicer in urban spaces, will transplant some of these to a shady unirrigated bed and see if they behave well among the other neglected natives.

In addition to the bees, seems some birds must love them from the way their seeds have been distributed about our lot.

Pulled 4 or 5 pairs of plants from the front bed and was surprised to find most were connected with several yards of rhizome(?). Really seemed to like running them near the top of the clay just under the mulch. Can see how these would take over any spot they favor. Did transfer 3 to the wild bed in back, but will keep and eye on them. Thanks again for the inputs.
