Wild Goldenrod

I have some wild goldenrod growing in one part of my yard. I actually like it's green leaves in the spring, but I know it's invasive so I want to cut it back before it goes to seed. Last year I cut it back after it flowered, but before it seeded (worked ok...spread some underground but not to other areas of our yard). AND I got some great sticks to use plant support elsewhere from it. BUT I was dodging bees while I was doing it so I was wanting to cut them back BEFORE they bloomed this year. But what I don't know, is if these are the type of plants that if you cut them pre bloom they will just bloom from the stumps. THAT would be even harder to deal with. Does anyone have any experience with that?
