Still looking for tree: Palo Verde "desert museum" ...

If anybody is poking around a nursery in the San Antonio vicinity ask if they have it. It hasn't been available from the wholesale growers in the last year, but there might be a leftover one somewhere; although I've called all that I can thiink of.

Well, I think I'll go with something else. The Palo Verde "desert museum" trees at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens were not as pretty as I thought they would be. Yes, they were thornless and even had a few blooms, but not all the limbs, nor the trunk had retained the green color nor did they exhibit the graceful shape that I expected.

I'm not sure they are representative of the best of P.V. 'desert museum' but since the variety is not readily available anyway (thanks to Jolana for finding one a couple of hours away. That woman is a phenomenal 'finder' ... :-) and as much as I love trying something different, I'll probably go with a tried and true Arroya sweetwood which loves alkaline soil, grows fast, is drought tolerant, smells wonderful all times of the year, and IS available.

Thanks for reading and any considerations of checking nurseries for me.

Mrs. Wiggley, thank you for the link to the Central Texas Gardener video. Now I want every tree he mentioned! ... LOL

I noticed Mary Irish's video (she's in charge of plant sales at SABG) about Texas trees and shrubs on the side bar and watched it too. The tree pictured on the cover of her book is the look I was wanting with Palo Verde "desert museum".

Aww, I know you wanted one real bad and I still have some thorned ones. When Omar was here, he made a good point, when the get taller than you (me), which is real fast, the thorns aren't able to get you, LOL
The one that seeded in Tweed's bed last year grew 2ft by winter, got zapped down a foot by the last freeze is now a couple of feet taller than I am or maybe more now
Any tree you pick will be great tho
