Texas Persimmons fruiting now!

I was out on my property today and discovered that the native Tx. Persimmons are ripe and ready. So I thought I'd post something about them.
If you are out walking in town or in the country, keep an eye out for these small trees - the females are the fruit bearers. The ripe fruits are black, round, about the size of a nickel and are probably sharing the branch with their not-yet-ripened green buddies.
Besides the tree's beautiful bark these little persimmon fruits are a delicacy for many critters...the human variety as well.
I'm providing a couple of links if you'd like to familiarize yourself with this wonderful native.
