Help for an April Bride

Hello all! I have finally found "the one" and I am at the beginning stages of planning an outdoor wedding. But I feel a little unsure, and I keep asking myself, "what will this look like in April?" Will things be green? Will most of the trees be getting a good start on their leaves? Or will it be in that ugly half brown/half green state of being? I feel like I should know this since I fancy myself a gardener...but still I can't really picture the state of things at that time of year. I am leaning toward late April and it would really help if anyone could post pictures of their gardens/landscape/grass/trees at that time of year or point me in the right direction of some help. Thank you all so much!!

Congratulations! A spring wedding will be lovely. I don't know how quickly you green up in the DFW area, but in San Antonio, most things are blooming or green. Roses are particularly nice this time of year. Have you considered a large trellis or arbor, perhaps with potted roses in urns on either side for a nice backdrop?

Rose trees are available that time of year and make a nice grouping.

You could combine roses with any number of plants in bloom at that time of year. Pink jasmine and confederate jasmine are usually in bloom and can't be beat for scent.

This photo is a little later in the year, but if you have a gazebo or arbor, try hanging baskets for a romantic look.

I love the elegant look of wrought iron and the nice thing about it is that you can paint it any color you want to coordinate with your wedding. The same goes for pots and urns. The cutest thing I've seen recently are standard black nursery pots with vertical white stripes of duct tape so that it looks like a black and white striped pot without the effort of actually painting it that way.

What do you have in your yard? April is exciting here in DFW plants are awakening. But that's your point right? You are in luck because TxKitty has great suggestions and you can buy almost any plant you will want and set them around in April. AND You could request them as gifts and set them out as they arrive just before the wedding. I went to a July wedding where the father of the bride decided to spend the money he would have spent on cult flowers on landscape blooming shrubs. A white gown and purple brides maids gowns were really enhanced by the natural plants and instead of trash the plants lived on just like the marriage.
AND you can plant daffodils and tulips to have a glorious show from March through mid April. Ranunculus are an underused plant that like it in our cool springs. Anemone corms soaked and planted now will begin blooming in early March and the foliage looks good all winter. If you want white they have them. If you are thinking about roses you'll have them blooming in mid April too....usually.

Remember if you find there isn't enough blooming in your garden, you can always get a few containers and plant some colorful petunias or other spring annuals to give a punch of color to your space.
