I tried in Houston area and failed. Don't know if too humid or too hot for them here. So sad as I was absolutely in love w/ scent

I would love to grow this salvia, but after 3 tries, I give up. When I first purchased this plant, I was told it required excellent drainage and a good amount of sun in order to successfully grow it....but it eventually died. I purchased another plant about a year later and planted it in another flower bed and, again, it died. I purchased it a 3rd time and it immediately went into decline. The last time I planted this salvia in a bed with a little bit of shade and more moisture--another failure. I am glad that I tried growing it because if it had thrived in my garden, it would have been so worth it.

i've planted every year for about 5 years everything including very sandy soil, regular soil, right next to my rosemary that grows fantastically --soil should be the same, also tried pots including a pot with cactus soil nothing worked it smells so wonderful and dies within 6 weeks i do know it doesn't like getting its leaves wet and avoided that.......

I kept one alive for about 6 months.

I just happened to see them pictured growing in a large swath in California where they are native. See blog below. But due to the drought they are not looking too good even there. However, they are alive. Wonder why they are so hard to keep going? Maybe it's the hot nights in Texas.
