| I've asked this before, but didn't get an exact name, but does anyone know what kind of trees these are? They are growing in Bastrop.
Jolana, you mentioned that they grew wild in the northern part of the county, but I haven't found any,...yet.
Which road?

That's that little motel on 71, right? Did I say exactly like them? They are the same or very close, they are growing between my place and 696 off of 290 Did you post these on Name that plant? Did you ever ask at Kimas? They know about everything in Bastrop Co. |

| Yes, that's the little motel on 71...took the photo today. You didn't say 'exactly' like them, but that they were similar looking. Never posted on Name That Plant Forum...yet. Never thought to ask at Kimas. I do know they dislike bamboo. They think all bamboo will take over the world if planted. I gave up trying to explain clumping bamboos. I give them a hard time everytime I go there...I ask why they don't have any bamboo? They don't like my sense of humor, I guess.:) Thanks, Jo. Kt |

HAHAHA, you're welcome. I don't know about the wife but Steve is from Abilene, where I was raised and he was a friend of my late baby brother. They don't like my sense of humor either and I have only asked one time about Bamboo and had to get it in Austin, LOL I still think it is one of the Thuja occidentalis. They have a lot of varieties that have rounded tops and have that bumpy, twisted look Besides, you never will know what those trees have been through, lol When we have to top cedar because of bagworm damage, they never grow into a point again, lol |

| I was flipping through a tree book and happend on a picture of Incense Cedar that looks vaguely similar. Other than that I have no clue. I would defintely post on the Name That Plant forum, they're really good. |

| Jo, yes, cedars will lose their apical dominance once the tops are lopped off, and sometimes the remaining tree grows into some unusual, unique, and beautiful shapes. I like to play around with them, but growth is very slow so it takes years to see results. Thanks, T-flip! The Incense Cedar looks very similar and is a start. I will look into it more and get back here with results. I do know that those trees in Bastrop have been there for many years and have seen a lot of change. Years ago, I could have stopped in front of the trees, got out, and took a pic. Now, with all the surrounding businesses and roads with heavy traffic, I have to take a pic while driving by and/or look quick before I zoom by them. Thank you both! Kt |

| Kt, did you go by or down 696 off of 290 and see the trees? |
RE: Bastrop Trees

| No, I haven't had a chance to yet, but I should have time before Thanksgiving. I'll keep you posted. I really want some of those trees. On a side note, it's sad to see all those pine trees dying, and dead, as you drive along HWY 71 at Bastrop. Bastrop State Park has lost a whole lot of pines, but I did see acres of ferns growing under the remaining pines along the drive. Don't know what kind of ferns they are though. Kt |

It has been extremely sad, there are soo many trees in Bastrop Co. We lost 2 pine trees here and 3 big post oaks |
RE: SadTrees

| I meant to say so many dead trees |
RE: Bastrop Trees

| I stopped counting at around 70, post oaks that I lost this year alone, not to mention those that died last year. Most were over 100 years old. I should have enough firewood to last till the sun burns out... |
RE: Bastrop Trees

| You may get a chance to use a lot of it this winter, KT !! |

| Still wearing short sleeves here. Not sure where my coat even is... |

| Still wearing short sleeves here, too, after the sun warms things up a bit, but that will change. |
