In a few weeks you probably won't have to mow. The company I use will mow for the last time this year Nov. 11th.

I am only concerned about the grass height when it is very sunny, hot and dry.

As to the eart worms, sometimes they comeoutif there is toomuch waterin the soil. Butwe arenot having too much water here. LOL

I suggest leaving it high at the end of the fall to deter the annual ryegrass (if that is a problem for you in the winter). I agree with Plantmaven about the worms. They come out of the ground when it gets too wet and try to cross the road, but dry out before they make it across.

Thank you so much Plantmaven and Lynnmariep86 for the quick response to the questions and the advice. I was wondering what made the earthworms come out and die and suspected the drought as the cause. Thanks for the information that too much water was the reason why this happened.

I think earthworms need air and when the ground gets totally saturated with rain they have to come to the top. What is amazing to me is how deep they had to go in order to find moisture in this drought. The only places I find any is where I have watered a lot. This also brings in the armadillos and moles. Seems like every one wants to help plow up the garden when we get a little moisture. Ha, Ha
