Use of mortar & brick rubble in yard?

Does anyone know if the mortar bits from old brickwork can be used safely as fill or base around the yard? Concern is the possibility of raising the pH of our already alkaline north Texas soil, but not sure this is valid with aged mortar (~40-50 years).
The brick and mortar pieces are fairly well separated, so might be able to use at least the brick rubble to raise a low area where we plan to build a shed.

Would welcome any other creative ideas for repurposing the pile of brick fragments and/or bags of mortar bits left from our recent masonry work. Not a huge amount, but much more than I'd like to send to the landfill if there are good alternatives.
