Iris like that bone meal for root development. I am moving a bunch of them t so they get more sun shine.

Humm... I didn't think they needed any special care. There were tons of them all along the fence in a 4ft thick row when we bought this house ages ago but I took them out. I often see them in huge clumps on abandoned farms growing 'wild' out in the country quite a lot too but maybe these are an old common variety. A testament to how hardy they are even when neglected.

Irises vary in toughness . There is a woman in Arizona that sells xeric irises but the iris that I brought down from PA. from my grand mom's place just vaporized on contact with my soil, so Go figure and that was in the richer zone". I add the bonemeal because my soil is so anemic. I have grown them without bonemeal.The old cemetery white irises are a very tough thing indeed. They were originally from North Africa and came over with the slave trade and used in Black cemeteries before they crossed "the color line" and every one in the south ended up with them and they became the passalong standard entryway iris. I think you got some in that bag of bulbs I gave you..This is the info that I was given over the internet. I know, one should not believe everything one reads.

There are large patches on the family land outside of Norman where the irises have naturalized in red sandstone outcroppings, they must have been planted by R's grandparents. Whatever kind they are, they are tough, they grow along side clumps of those small native spikey kinds of yuccas and actually they look rather nice together especially in spring. The only downside is the ticks, the seed ticks are thick out there.
