Tomato Rootstock

I'm fairly new to the concept of tomato plant grafting and am hoping to get some practical pointers. I live in a neighborhood and have a backyard garden and have the same issues as most Central Texas gardeners (disease, heat, pests). I want to get the most out of my tomato plants and will be trying to graft my starter tomato plants to some productive rootstock. I'd also like to do it without pay Monsanto $25 for 50 Maxifort seeds, which is apparently the preferred tomato grafting rootstock.

Has any out there used an easy/inexpensive improved tomato variety as rootstock and what tomato type did you graft to it? I've read the articles; I'd love some practical experience.

Since I'd never heard of grafting tomatoes I did a search on the tomato forum. There are quite a few people trying it. Sounds interesting!

But the question stands. Does anyone on this forum having experience in grafting tomatoes?

Here is a link that might be useful: Results of tomato grafting search ...
