Paperwhite Ziva - The real outdoor planting instructions

Hello,
I just joined this forum today so please excuse all stupidity. I usually do my limited flower gardening from plants from the local nursery or big box store. I decided it would be fun to do some bulbs for a change. The Paperwhite Ziva bulbs I purchased about 3 weeks ago had some fairly nice instructions about planting and what I should expect. The instructions said in my zone (Zone 8 in East Texas) I should plant Oct-Dec and should expect early spring blooms. I planted some right away since it was the end of Oct. Now most of them are between 18" to 2' tall and I think one is actually about to bloom. Last night was our 1st night really below freezing and not our last! My question is: What are the real instructions for planting new bulbs outdoors for spring blooms? I don't trust the instructions on the package! Is the trick to wait a bit longer?
Thanks!
Dan
