Fun day today...

I answered an ad on Craig's List for trading plants, and today was the day we decided on. My husband wasn't thrilled, I got the lecture about stranger's coming to case the joint, etc.

Anyway, when the lady arrived (with a friend), they were as nice as can be, and I ended up with a Service Berry, a St Joseph Lily, spider lilies, among other things. One thing they brought, Amaranthus, I had heard about, can hardly wait to plant the seeds! I loaded them up with Rock Roses, cuttings of various plants, Mexican Petunias, salvia, mums, etc.

We got to talking, and I mentioned how my husband was a little nervous, and they both laughed, said their husbands were the same way, that's why they always traveled together.

So the chain saw massacre didn't happen, and now I have new plants to study and plant!!

That does sound like a fun day. I'm laughing because that would be me too. It's good to be cautious and their method sounds like a great solution.

Did you tell them all about Texas Garden Web???

Yep, I sure did! Hope they will join, they really are into the old Southern Passalong plants, which I'm really interested in. One of the gals has the old crinum plants, we're planning on getting together next spring, that way I can give them stuff from my Winter Sowing, right??

My new flowerbed is taking on a life of its own; After 50 years in the corporate world I find that I'm not the most artistic person in the world, am too "straight line"; don't want it to look like my back flowerbed, this needs to be totally different... wow, this is going to be a challenge for me!

    ogrose,
Its a challenge for me too. There's a lot to think about and consider.
But if you make a mistake you can always correct it later.

That's something I usually forget, and then I get so bogged down and stressed out I end up doing nothing and my plants suffer from being in the pots way to long!

And did you tell them about the Denton County Garden Hop to your house??? Don't forget the Spring plant swap as well.

No, Carrie751, I didn't, but that's a great idea; we're going to keep in touch. They live in Grand Prairie, so it's a little bit of a trip but they don't seem to mind. I will be sure to let them know. It would be great if we could find a "central place", what do you think? They are always looking forward to getting new plants, mentioned a place in Arlington that has plants for $2, trees for $5; they said when they went her whole front yard was solid with plants in pots! Will try to get the address for those that are interested (I know I am!).

That sounds good, but before you shell out $$$ for a plant, why don't you see if some of us has it to offer for free??? We love sharing our plants if we know what you are looking for.

That sounds so neat! I'm glad you met some nice folks. It's cute how protective some guys are isn't it?

Yes, it really is neat; we were in our early 20's when we got married (in San Francisco; and no, we weren't hippies!), and are fixing to celebrate our 48th anniversary in November!! Plan to go to Winstar Casino in Oklahoma (that's what he likes to do)and then, in the spring, if we can work the plans out, will go to Savannah to go on the garden tour! At least I will do the tour, he has Stage 4 Cancer, but, amazingly enough, since I retired in March, he's made remarkable progress, so we'll enjoy our life as long as we can! Life is good, don't ever forget that!!

Life IS good, ogrose, and we need to be thankful each day we have it. It was my pleasure to have met your nice husband. I think he enjoyed the hub-bub of a lot of gardeners yakking.

Thanks for the responses, y'all are great! I'll let you know on the Savannah trip, reservations for tours open up on December 1 at 9:00 am central time, you can bet I'll be on there making a few reservations for the gardening walking tours, a couple of restaurants, etc., then on to getting hotel reservations as well as airline. They do have casinos in Savannah, so my dear one will be happy for sure while I'm taking in all the wonders of Savannah!! This way he won't have to walk much (although I've noticed getting from the car into the casino doesn't seem to present much of a problem!) I'll let you know what kind of luck I have; they normally fill up really fast, but maybe with the economy the way it is, won't have too much of a problem! Even if I don't get the reservations, want to go just to walk around, visit all the touristy "antique shops", etc. and go to some GOOD restaurants!! Southwest is having a sale, I hope they go to Savannah!

We got talking, have taken exactly ONE vacation over the last 48 years while starting a business, raising kids, educating them, etc., am SO looking forward to this!

Wow at this point you deserve a vacation! We haven't gone off by ourselves either. We've been married 11 years and still haven't had a honeymoon, unless you count being married to a wonderful DH a honeymoon :)
