I get a saffron spice mix from Holy Foods.I rubbed Turmeric, saffron spice , smoked pepper on a chicken breast and glazed with a roasted habanerea sauce. Indians , africans, spanish and chinese use saffron in rice. Spanish use it in Paella just for starters.

Mara that does sound delish! I've never used it either. Just ordered some bulbs on a whim. Planted 15 of 20 and gave 5 to a neighbor who makes paella. I bought my bulbs from Brent & Becky's where I ordered a specific anemone this fall.
Neighbor said I could just put them into rice. This is really helpful! Thank you!

Are you sure it is the Saffron Crocus and not another type of crocus like a Colchicum? I only ask because colchicum is poisonous and this is not the surprise you want.

I planted a bunch of saffron crocus last fall and this year was the first year for blooms. They are doing extremely well and look to be multiplying rapidly. Mine did fine through the crazy winter we had last year. Not that showy when it isn't blooming, though, as you can see by the attached photo.

Those are cool. Only thing is here in San Antonio were pushing it with our zone 8b hot weather. Could be worth a try

Briaustex These are sativus. I trust Brent & Becky;s bulbs to send what they say they are sending. Crocus do need cool / cold winters. Maybe these are different. They grow in Spain.
