Anyone here grow quinoa or other grains?

We just moved into a house in the summer and are thinking about getting our edible gardens together in the next month or so. I'm brainstorming things to grow for next year and came across a package of quinoa sees the other day---lightbulb went off.

I was curious about anyone's experiences with it here in Texas, particularly in the greater Houston area.

I'm doubtful about this succeeding in Texas, but of course, there's no harm in trying.

Here is a link that might be useful: Quinoa

I would try it, just for fun. Reading the above link, it sounds like it could work as an annual winter crop in Houston, since it likes cool temps and can take light frost. It probably would have to be planted now, or a little earlier. Also not sure how it would take heavy clay soil, but it sounds like adaptable plant.

Yeah after reading I think I'll try it next fall. We have very sandy soil where I am at, so hopefully that will work out ok, but of course we'll be using amended raised beds by that time.

    Definitely willing to try it!
