When I first saw the row cover and I couldn't see any difference and said "That's just interfacing fabric". I didn't compare the costs because I'd already found a very large piece of 1" thick 100% polyester quilt batting at the Thrift Store for $2.00 and bought that. It worked great. The object seems to be a fabric that will allow light to pass through, not absorb water and also give some protection. After two seasons, that batting didn't look any worse for wear except its got a few leaves and twigs in it. I stored it away in winter, folded up in a trash bag. I think its better than the interfacing stuff.

Thank you. Your batting could well be better than the interfacing stuff. If memory serves, the row cover/interfacing stuff is supposed to give 8F degrees protection, and polyester fleece is supposed to give about 15F degrees protection. Your batting probably gives closer to 15F degress protection-- I'll have to try it if I find any in a thrift store!

The batting is thicker. The row cover that I use is lighter and will be better for more delicate things. I think the row cover is cheaper it comes in 12 wide lengths. I get it for a $1 per running foot and where I get it, I have them measure it out in the length of the beds That I have to cover. I also put some stakes in the ground and have PVC pipes bent over my vegetable garden that I stretch out the row cover. I know some people ,for larger delicate shrubs or aloes,will put 4 rebar steaks in the ground and cross the bent over U's of PVC pipe , tie them together and cover them with the row cover. Can you get huge pieces of batting?

I can see why Batting in OKC will be better. I have been known to put a floating row cover under the row cover frame so I have two spaces with an air space.

I store them in a trash bag too. So far I have had them for 4 years.
