Invites for the 10th Annual WNY plant swap (can you believe it's been 10 years???) will be going out today. I'll be sending them to those that have attended or expressed interest in the past. If you are interested but did not receive an invite, please email me so I can include you. Anyone is welcome!

For those that are attending...what are you bringing and what are you hoping to go home with?

RE: wanted: 10th annual wny plant swap - wants/haves

Wanted:
butterfly weed (not Joe Pye, the orange one)
Coreopsis (any kind)
Echinacea (even plain purple)
Blanket Flower
Major Wheeler Honeysuckle
Lupines
Bee Balm
Scabiosa
Salvia New Dimension
Any Speedwell/Veronica
Nasturtium
Splish Splash Cranesbill (or any cranesbill)
Red Yarrow
Black Eye Susans
Carnations, any color

Hostas too, I just decided I have another place for another bed,lol

Have:
Red blooming Japanese Quince (ALWAYS have these)-These are a big time suckering spreader, plant with care!!
Probably more Rose Of Sharon seedlings, colors unknown
Possibly Ispahan Damask Roses-I have just transplanted two suckers to see how well they do. If it works, I will have some to bring. I should mention that I am only 95% sure these are Ispahan. They were here when we bought the house and I'm sure whomever planted them is long past, they have gone wild in a small stand below some rose of sharon-they match very well to everything I've read of/seen of Ispahan.
Rooted Butterfly Bush cuttings-light purple (type unknown), Purple Emperor (English Butterfly series), Blue Chip, Red Velvet, and Dark Knight
Wild White Violets
Some other random who knows whats, might try rooting some Hydrangea cuttings-it's nothing special, but it's an oldie I'm sure-same for my weigela

****this is a long shot, but we are also looking for anyone that know how to graft and has root stock for an apple tree. We have a lovely OLD apple (it's huge for an apple tree) which is in wonderful health. HOWEVER, it is in the unfortunate position of being planted near our cliff, which erodes every year. It's probably only 10' from the edge. We'd love to "save" it via grafting a few trees. It is likely an heirloom variety, I've found reference to this area being a recreational "park" with an orchard in the 1920's. I have no idea where to start with grafting it, or finding rootstock. I will probably plant some seeds as well, but I know they don't come true. It's a pretty good apple, smaller red and also pretty good for baking but a little on the bland side in pies.

My big ole apple tree that needs saving via grafting (there's no transplanting this big boy)

Cathy (nixon), I think I have a apricot Jacob's ladder but I'm not sure if it's divisible right now. I'll know better once things get a little further along and if it is, I'll set a bit aside for you.

Eclecticcottage, I've got lupine like crazy! And bee balm, black eyed susans, and cranesbill ( a couple varieties), coreopsis, and possibly some blanketflower. I'll have some of each set aside for you.

Everyone else, get your wants/needs up! :)

RE: wanted: 10th annual wny plant swap - wants/haves

thanks Tara!

I apparently also have some wild purple violets I can bring. Amazing how stuff keeps just appearing here (found a single snowdrop this spring too, under the quince!).

*knock on wood* the roses I transplanted seem to still be doing well, so it's looking more like I will have some to bring! I'm going to probably move a third one in the next few days to a different place to see how it does, and pot up a few then too since it's probably better to transplant them now before they leaf out (plus now I can actually see the canes and get to the roots, once they fully leaf out it's hard to trace back to the base with those thorns). They smell so heavely when in bloom, I want some closer to the house (the stand of them is down by the lake, some 300' from the house).

Does anyone have any verbascum? I lost all mine and man, the price of plants these days is exorbitant! I am so thankful for the plant swap!

I had southern charm and LOVED it, but really any verbascum would be good.

RE: wanted: 10th annual wny plant swap - wants/haves

I don't have much in my garden to bring - so i'm sorry in advance!

Nixon - I think you and I both have a lot of shade. At my last house i had dense shade and tried to bring some to this house but my trillium all died. I would be thrilled if you had some to share!

I do have a small amount of some pink toad lily if you would like some.

Karen

Gottagarden, I'll make sure I have a few potted up for you!

I am not doing any of the rooted cuttings, this weather made everything come out so late that things weren't ready in time.

I'll poke around below the rose of sharon tonight for seedlings.

I can't wait. I almost took monday off of work to plant, lol!

Lilylouise, I'd love some of the coreopsis and bee balm!

Rosalinda - I've got two donkey tail spurges set aside for you too. I promised them to you last fall after my ER visit.

I'm still out digging now - will try to pull what I can but its been a weird year. Lost a lot of plants and fewer volunteers than usual.

See you all tomorrow.

About the tuberose "Pearl"...Are the starts you offered one or two years old? I don't want to give up on them too soon?
Thanks Lily
