I moved from Long Island to Albany, NY almost 2 years ago, but haven't ventured to try growing anything beyond herbs up until now. I would love to grow a little vegetable garden. Can anyone with experience growing vegetables in this area tell me about your successes and failures? The soil here is so different than on Long Island. Its much more clay here and the summer's are obviously shorter so that will be a consideration. My 4 year old *really* wants to grow watermelons, but I feel like that will be a waste of time and effort. Also, if you start seeds indoors, when do you start them?
