Mohawk Valley Mulch in Utica has triple ground hardwood bark mulch. It's kinda pricey ~$50 a yard including tax if I remember correctly. I used a couple yards last summer and was very pleased with it compared to the normal "painted" and cedar mulch I've used in the past. Availability can be hit or miss so call ahead. Don't know if it's even available this time of year.

I wonder if the mills such as Spink Lumber in Camden/Durhamville (they only work with pine) save the bark from the trees they mill. Perhaps they are throwing it out, or sending it to whoever composts or makes topsoils? Might be worth looking into.

BTW, I found a good source for double ground pine bark in Syracuse, NY.

Check your Agway. They have Pine Bark Mulch, but depending on the warehouse it came out of,it could be small chips or shredded with the same SKU. Best to ask first. They will special order. $5.99 for 3 CF
