Hardy nut trees for smallish Finger Lakes lot?

User

I'm trying to find some not-too-large nut trees I can grow on my 1/3 acre lot without shading the whole thing, as I need to stuff some fruit trees in there too. Preferably Asian for disease resistance, unusual is fine as long as it's human edible! Really (due to size) all I've found so far is filbert/hazelnut shrubs. Lots of other leads but the trees are huge: ginkgo, heartnut, Korean pine. Ideally the right trees would be prunable to allow some understory growth. Any thoughts, suggestions, experiences?
