As aromatic as a skunk might be :-), they're digging for grubs and other insects, which is actually beneficial. On the other hand careful with the mothballs, it is a neuro-toxin harmful to humans, too.

We have skunks around our home also and I let them have free reign for the same reason that joyce mentioned.

Yep, skunks are welcome at BruMeta, too. But, if you have a dog who doesnt know skunk from squirrel, you can try dried blood or predators' (fox, bobcat, lion) urine; I recently read that lion pee is effective with skunks. (You do keep a pet lion about, don't you?) Available at many nurseries or garden supply stores.
