I would say if they are growing, it is OK to remove the mesh. The time to worry is right after planting when the bulbs are "loose" in the soil. I have squirrels & chipmunks and many different types of bulbs and never had any problems yet...

Daffodils are poisonous so if you interplanted the crocuses with them, that could be of help. I have daffodils and narcissis interplanted among other spring bulbs.

I put chicken grit, found at most farming supply stores on surface after planting. The critters do not like the sharp edges of the granite grit and will/should leave your bulbs alone... You could sprinkle some on now for peace of mind...

Once they are growing leaves, I find squirrels won't bother digging up bulbs. They'll atack when bulbs are recently planted, but not the leaves.

I did interplant the daffodil bulb with the tulips and crocuses in hopes of keeping the critters away. I've removed the wire and so far everybody seems to be doing well.

Now the challenge is keeping the dog from trampling the little shoots.
