Some folks sow sweet pea seeds in the fall so they germinate the following spring as soon as conditions are right for them. For spring sowing, plant sweet peas outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked, up to six weeks before the last frost date, which in Rochester should be now. They should be in a fairly well drained soil.
