anyone use those solarizing soil covers??

I just saw MAaaaaahhhthaaaaaa in an old show, talking about how solarizing soil covers can raise the soil temp as much as 5 degrees. I am wondering about using them here vs. going with nature's own way and waiting for the soil to warm and dry naturally. I would think having a warmer soil, and therefore the ability to plant out earlier would be a "good thing', but I also think you would then have nice BIG plants to die in the late May hailstorm or late frost.

What do you peeps think?? Is it too risky to use up in our neck of the woods?? I know of farmers who use it for their corn & strawberry plants....
