| As a kid on Long Island I had no problem knowing when to pitch in and get the family garden going. Now living in Sullivan County, NY. I have found that the rules of Long Island Gardening no longer apply.
When is a good time to get broccoli seeds into the ground in my area? Would I be better off winter sowing them in the basement under some flourescent tubes and then transplanting in mid may? I am concerned about the summer heat that seems to come out of nowhere and causes bolting of certain crops before their prime. Any help would be much appreciated. This is the first time I am trying to grow broccoli. Hated it as a kid so it never found its way to the family garden. As a parent with 2 kids that love the stuff as I now do, I have decided I would like to grow some. Thanks in advance. |

| I started mine in Mid March from seed. I am hoping to get a crop towards the end of June. Right now you would probably need to buy plants for a spring crop. You could also start seeds in July for a fall crop. |
