I have no spring color...thanks to deer

I put in a new garden last year outside my back window. The deer came and ate all the buds (tons of them) off my Rhododendrons. Then they ate the tulips. My azalias didn't survive the winter well so I am left w/no color. Ugh. I'm so frustrated. Do you have this problem? What colorful, deer resistant plants do you all have, that can survive our winters? Thanks for any recommendations.

I have had them eat tulips , lilies , hosta..........now I keep them away with eggshells.
For shrubs , deer netting is good for winter . Once spring gets here , I take unwashed egg shells and spread them around the plants I know deer like....it really works well. If you don't eat a lot of eggs , it may be worth talking to your local coffer shop about saving a mornings worth of eggs once a week for you . Good Luck

Most of my plants are deer resistant but not all hardy. I plant a lot of agastaches and salvias.

When it comes to deer I've got lots of experience about what they eat.
I'm surprised they ate your rhododendron, they don't touch mine.
Plants deer don't eat- heliopsis, peony, daffodils, most things with scented foliage like monarda (great for attracting humming birds), forget me not, verbascum, stachys, lavender, hyacinth, bleeding heart, torenia, sweet william, lily of the valley and chrysanthemum.
I also have good luck with daylily and iris, but the deer will eat these in the spring when small and I have to protect them- bend a piece of fencing over them- until they get to be a good size. Lilacs are in bloom now. The small little one I have out back needs constant protection. The big ones they'll nibble on, but they can't reach it all.

I made a spray that works real well....mix half gallon water with 3 eggs ...add pieces of Garlic...let sit in sun for 1 week ...strain through cheeseclothe or anything fine ..pour into spray bottle! Smells real bad but works wonders...Wayne

Deer do eat Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel.I recently transplanted our native Geranium outside my fence to serve as a groundcover and it appears that deer ate them. Two broad-leaved evergreens they do not eat are Pieris and Leucothea. Netting they can eat through so to protect plants in small areas removable fencing can be used. For me a deer fence was the best solution since I have lots of deer fodder on my 3/4 acre. Cornell has a listing of "deer resistant" plants. check it out.

I don't have a deer problem, but I think they leave alone hellebores, daffodils, allium, peony, bergenia, bleeding heart, forget-me-not, coral bells, creeping phlox, columbine...

They eat columbine- mostly the blossoms.
