I'm zone 5. Mine are fine and no extra work. There are lots of gorgeous ones in our area. Do you see them in your neighborhood as you drive around? Not sure if they like Z4.

I see many weepin cherries in my area and they seem to do well. Where did you purchase yours?? I am considering purchasing one, but am planning on buying them from a large local grower that has raised all there stock right here in my area. It may cost a little more but I think it will pay off in the long run.

Mine does fine, I've had it for 3 yrs now. But, it is in a somewhat protected location. I also have flowering crabapples, which are very cold hardy, and maybe a good choice if you find the cherries don't survive your winters.

A local synagogue in Schenectady has an entire front lawn full of old, beautiful trees. They sustained some pretty bad damage during an ice storm a few years ago, but they grow fine in our area.

My brother/neighbor here in Saratoga County, Gansevoort has one. Actually it is his second, the first didn't make it. He went back to the local nursery, explained and they replaced it free. It was a little expensive, the blooms were beautiful these last weeks! It is in a raised landscape bed with small shrubs and flowers in full sun. His is a minature. Hope this helps.

I am in Albany County in NY. I just planted a weeping cherry and it is turning brown. It was the only thing I wanted in my yard when we redid the landscaping and I think it is history.
