use a jig-saw

I tried a jig saw and it didn't do the job. I am thinking of buying a saws all, but I don't want to risk buying one if it won't work.

Do you have an old soldering iron? Maybe you can melt it.

A good band saw would do the trick but you may not have access to one. One thing I would do is sandwich it between two pieces of thin plywood and clamp. If you use a saws all you will need to hold it very flat and still.

can't beleive a jig-saw will not cut the mat. how thick is it?what kind of blade did you use?

The mats are maybe a half inch thick. I know nothing about jigsaw blades--I used the blade that came with an inexpensive saw.I have a few mats under young crabapple trees and they are working very well. I stil have mats that need to be placed for the first time on larger trees. And--I will eventually have to increase the size of the holes on all the trees.

mudlady;next time your in lowe's or home depot go to the tool department and explain to the man working their what you want to cut and he will set you straight on what blade to use.i know it can be cut.

I'm sure it can be cut because they are sold every year in Lowe's. There must be someone out there who can help me. I tried last Fall to find a way to contact the manufacturer. I think I will try that again.
