I planted one this summer, so I hope it does well. I planted it in a partially protected area so that, hopefully, it will not get the brunt of the winter winds.

I live in MI and I found one growing on the side of my house last year. This year I split it and put some in the front yard. Will see if it survives this winter. Since I have lived in this house for 7 years and have never planted this plant I am hoping it will still grow.

I have had two aucuba japonicas for about 10 years here in Putnam County (mid-Hudson Valley). They survive fine, but occasionally have some blackened leaves in the winter. Their leaves roll up like a rhododendron's in freezing weather. In the spring they produce little tiny brown flowers, almost invisible. They have grown to about 5 feet tall in 10 years, which is not spectacular, but they make a fine color addition to a largely conifer area, so good luck!
