help id plant at Rt 81 rest area near Syracruse

Two weeks ago while traveling north on New YOrk Rt 81 at a rest stop just south of Syracruse, I noticed annual beds containing white trumpet datura planted with several plants I couldn't identify. The foliage and seeds pods were exactly like the trumpet datura, but the flowers were mauve - lavender and looked like phalaenopsis orchid blooms.

I clipped some seed pods although they weren't ripe. I thought it was a new hybrid datura, but can't find it... and am wondering now if I imagined it(although I have been gardening for 35 years!)

Can anybody from the Syracruse area help? any body seen this plant at local nurseries?

Thanks

Jacqui
