Trades and exchanges

I would love to find out how many here along the wasatch front have plants or other garden related items that they would be interested in trading or exchanging.
I would love to trade for some irises and hostas(or other shade loving plants).
I have some pyracanthas, arborvitaes and other plants I am interested in getting rid of this year.
I have a BUNCH of Virginia Creeper someone might like.

As I do my winter sowing (still looking for defrosted potting soil... LOL) I will hopefully have ALOT of little transplants that would NEVER survive being mailed, but someone in the area would love to have... that I could trade in person.

Maybe we can start a trade here in this forum.
As we go through our old "stuff" this Spring and buy new "stuff", upgrade, whatever, this forum might be a good place to offer the old "stuff" and make friends along the way.

What do you think?

Songbirdmommy,
To avoid not having potting soil in January next year, buy an extra bag this year and put it in your garage. Just a thought to save you some stress.

RE: Trades and exchanges

I just traded seeds by mail with a guy from New York I found on the perennials forum. He had tons of stuff to trade, and I'm looking forward to sprouting all these seeds!

If anyone local wants some seeds, I have a few varieties I'd be happy to give away:

1. Lavatera tauricensis - a pink flower that looks similar to hibiscus. Supposed to be a zone 7 plant, but it's done fine in my yard (which might actually be zone 7 now, if you saw that thread about the National Arbor Day Foundation's zone change map). Actually, with this extra cold month, I'm waiting to see if the plants really do come back this spring. Anyway, it flowered first year from seed, so it could be treated as an annual. Here's a link to photos and something I wrote about it on my personal website.

2. French Marigold -- I can't remember the variety. I'm not a big marigold fan, but I like these. They're orangey-rusty colored and somewhat low growing, with fairly simple flowers (not the big, tall puff-balls). Here's a link from my website, too.

I have a lot of these seeds. If you want some, you can email me by clicking on my name above and finding the email link from my profile.

Sounds great to me. I just put in an order for seeds from hardyplants.com. They have TONS of stuff. I should have some nice penstemon and salvia plants this spring to trade around.

RE: Trades and exchanges

Stevation-I would LOVE a few of the Lavatera tauricensis seeds. The pics you have are gorgeous!

Bindersbee-Would love to trade some Salvia for some thing in the spring!

I got some soil from Costco about a week ago, but ended up in the hospital this past week, so I have yet to plant anything...
Will let everyone know if anything sprouts or if my black thumb rears it's ugly head again.
keeping my fingers crossed that winter sowing will work for me!

Good thing is I feel better... AND ... Master Gardener classes begin tonight! YAH!

Bindersbee, I would love to trade for some penstmon. I'm doing some low water zones in my yard and had planned to try and find some seeds. I'm wintersowing tons of flowers, herbs and some veggies with the hope of having something to trade.

Zach – I have a mock orange that is going to get a serious haircut in the next couple weeks. You are certainly welcome to the cuttings.

Thanks, Jim. Where do you live? With that zone 7a I have to assume you are down south.
