New to vegetable gardening--HELP!

Hi--

We've just bought our first house in Spanish Fork (the east side, perfect for Canyon winds). I've never been able to plant vegetables, but now that we have space, I would like to try some simple square foot gardening. I'd like to start the seeds indoors before it's time to transplant them in the spring.

My biggest problem is that I'm COMPLETELY Overwhelmed by the variety of seeds availible. I don't want to waste my money on stuff that works great in Oregon, but only kind of well in Utah.

Can you give me any recommendations for what vegetables and varieties I should start with this year? Any other good pieces of advice for a very novice gardener?

Be sure to read the packets. Get the ones with the shortest days to maturity! We have a shot growing season here so fast maturing plants tend to do best. Tomatoes and peppers need to be started early (mine are sprouting now) In order to get fruits before Aug. Peas, carrots, beats can be started on sit by the end op April. Hope this helps.
