Hi, I live in Layton and have been planting tropicals outside for several years now. You can find canna's and elephant ears at any of the big box stores or local nursery. I have been to Cactus and Tropicals and they have a lot of cool stuff but it is pretty pricey. I found my Musa Basjoo at Lowe's one year and it has been overwintered in the ground for 3 years now. I bought some elephant ear tubers at Walmart and they grow just fine.

Another really cool plant is the abyssian banana. It gets really big and impressive in one season. It can't be overwintered outside but can be dug up and stored inside (which is what I do). I found mine at Alpine gardens up in the Perry area for pretty cheap (around 7 dollars) and have seen a much larger one for 70.00 at that nursery in South Jordan...can't remember the name, maybe Glover?

I just bought a ton of succulents at J&J in Layton. They have great prices too- WAY cheaper than Cactus and Tropicals (though I love that place, I just can't afford them).
