New home and 1/2 acre lot

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie here, but need some advice. I live in Pleasant Grove, UT. We are getting ready to put in trees, topsoil, sprinkler systems, grass, etc...on our new 1/2 acre lot. We have had a friend who also just built nearby bring us several loads of dirt for leveling our lot out, but it has clay in it. My concern is how this will affect all new growth. I've read several great posts about tilling in compost, coffee grinds, etc. My questions are: If it were you, what would you do? Since the clay dirt was hauled in, will it not be a very big problem since it doesn't go deep? Do I need to even ammend the dirt if we are having topsoil brought in? How much topsoil should we put down? To have the soil tested, how many spots should I test and where do I go to have it tested? I'm so excited to get going on the plant/shrub/tree landscaping that I don't want bad soil to burst my bubble. I would love all of your comments and ideas! Thanks!
