| I don't have a lot of time right now, and hopefully bpgreen or one of the others with a lot of lawn experience will jump in. But I can say this much: a neighbor hydroseeded his lawn last year, and a LOT of weeds showed up in it. He just repeatedly sprayed it with Weed-B-Gone, which kills broadleaf weeds but doesn't kill grass. It worked well, and his lawn looked great by the end of summer. Make sure you use a herbicide that only kills the broadleaf weeds, not something like Roundup that kills everything! I know Highland is windy -- I live in Cedar Hills and I'm in a perfect pocket that is far enough from the canyon to not be very windy at all, but I drive home through Highland on SR-92 and see lots of wind on many days. Perhaps instead of plain seed, it may help to hydroseed, which might make it stick to the ground better (I think you have to hire someone to do it -- not sure there's a DIY method, but I may be wrong). Or maybe there's something you can do with a compost or sand covering to make it stay in place. Not sure though, I'm just thinking out loud... - Steve |
