Besides the advice to not plant during the hottest part of the year. I would suggest waiting until closer to fall, or next spring. Next question would be what fruit do you like to eat?

I have a red plum tree. Tree is over 20yrs old, sorry to say I never ate the fruit until this year, quite good. The birds, namely robins decimate the fruit.
The tree is a beautiful dark red. Nice contrast to the green.
