Rock Wall-- help-- need planting advice

Posted by newbiebaugh UT (My Page) on

We have a rock wall, only a few feet high, that's up against a fence. There's about an 8 inch gap in between the rock wall and the fence. I have no idea what to plant there! Currently, it's infested with weeds. This area gets full sun. I'm not looking for something that creeps down the rock wall, but something that I could plant in that small of a space that gets relatively high (at least 24 inches??) Is there such a plant?? Thanks!!

Ours must be the sleepiest garden forum ever! Did you plant your rock wall area?

Salvias, veronicas, and dianthus all come in varieties that will fit your qualifications. If you want something edible you could plant herbs such as sage, thyme, and oregano.

Here's what I'd do:
Dwarf Cranberry bush: it will turn burnt orange in the Fall, 24" tall
Stella d'Oro daylilies (dwarf): It'll get the height and it flowers in June/July. It's a light orange/yellow.
