So...
Are ants GOOD for the garden or BAD for the garden?
What are the benefits and drawbacks of ants?
Last year I ant-baited them all and killed them.
This year I've let them run free and nothing seems to be much different (other than I have to dodge trails of ants).

Do they eat bugs? Do they eat plants?

Here's an interesting wiki link... I had heard about the harvesting of honeydew from aphids, but there was a lot of interesting stuff here.. Can you imagine using ants in surgery? Ant egg caviar at $40 US per pound?
