mediterranean firs

Hey has anyone tried or heard anything about the following Mediterranean Firs being able to grow on the Wasatch Front.

Abies cephalonica, greek fir
Abies numidica, algerian fir
Abies cilicica, taurus fir

They are cold hardy, alkaline tolerant, and heat tolerant from what I've read, but they tend to be found in areas with more rainfall than us. Sometimes trees from higher rainfall areas just give up here in the summer with the high temperature low humidity combo. Just wondering if anyone has tried. I'm crazy about firs even though they are not the always the best for Utah. Thanks.

I have not seen any recently, but I think BYU had a Greek fir in their collection. If they are cold hardy, I would think, if you give them the water they need, they will grow. You may want to contact Red Butte gardens to see what they have.
