I'm new to this board and to gardening in general. I am having a hard time keeping my lawn green. I put the lawn in last spring. I had the lawn aerated in April of this year. I have fertilized twice this year. I am watering 2-3 times a week. I do not have a sprinkling system, so I am dragging hoses around the yard and using impact sprinklers.
My problem is that the for every green blade I have 3-4 dead blades. I watered thoroughly this morning (approx. 45 minutes), and this afternoon when I went out on the lawn and felt the soil, it was dry. Where I live we have hard, clay soil, but I had thought that the aeration would help. I think that the soil isn't being saturated when I water. I'm not sure what to try next and would appreciate any help or advice that anyone could give.
Have you measured the amount of water the sprinklers put down in 45 minutes? What time of day are you watering? When you checked the soil, how deep did you check? Do you have any runoff when you water? What kind of grass do you have?
