autumn/winter color

Hello Utahns. I am just wondering, now that autumn is here: what looks good in your yard in autumn/winter, either by choice or by happy chance?

Here is my happy chance: a hedge of 5 yellow-twig dogwoods with purple-leaf wintercreeper in front. The wintercreeper turns purple just about now, and the contrast with the yellow branches of the dogwood is very striking. It's almost as colorful as it looks in summer, (there are perennials between the wintercreeper and dogwoods), and the colors last all winter. I find myself looking out the window almost as much as I do with the perennials in summer. That is, when it's not covered with snow!

I used to plant only for the warm season, but am finding that winter is more bearable if there is something interesting in the yard to bring a smile.

What have you found that looks good in autumn/winter?
