oak half barrel sources

| Anybody know of a source for real, used oak half whiskey barrels? They used to be everywhere, and now the only ones available are either smaller ones manufactured as planters (and made of wood which is destined to decay within a year or two) or the fiberglass replicas. These have their uses, but they don't "breathe" as do the wooden barrels, so some things just don't do well in them. For size, durability, and drainage reasons I need to find the real deal. I'm in the Tidewater area, but willing to drive an hour or so if necessary, and I have a pickup truck (it's 17 years old, so whether it's willing to drive an hour is questionable...) |

| Have you called the full service garden centers in your area? We found them in Richmond at Southern States a couple of years ago and they still smelled like the whiskey that had been stored in them. Wonderful things. We had to pick through them to be sure they were "tight" and they were not exactly cheap but they definitely were the "real deal." Good luck. Sandy |
