| My advice is to return to Walmart and get the name of the crab apple variety and post back here to this thread. You'll be able to get a lot more helpful info. Yes most people will grow crab apple trees because they're showy, but I wouldn't grow them if you have any wild cedar trees growing nearby. The cedar evergreen tree acts as a "host" to a disease called Rust and you'll have to spray them every year from the time they open their leaf buds till June 15. It's a hassle. On the other hand, I grew them outside of Chicago, with no cedar in sight. The variety called "Profusion" was absolutely GORGEOUS every spring. I didn't give it any special care, just watered it if it was especially dry. Good luck. |
