mulch/compst in my area

I live in SE VA, Hampton, and I am starting to get my gardens ready for the spring and summer. I am looking to put some compost and mulch in my flower beds but I am also not looking to break the bank. I have heard that some municipalities offer free mulch and compost, however, Hampton does not. Does anyone know a place around here that gives free mulch/compost or a place around here where a large amount can be purchased for an economical price? thanks

If you find a place let me know. I am preparing to buy mulch and compost from Superior Marble & Stone here in Portsmouth, they have good deals but I am sure Hampton is out of their delivery area!

I live in Virginia Beach and the city of virginia beach does offer compost for pennies on the dollar. . . I have called them and you can buy compost for 23.00 - its equivalent to like 40 bags of compost I believe. I do hope my numbers are right - but I buy my compost (city of virginia beach compost) at atlantic garden center by the bag and its only a couple of dollars. Hope this helps!!

Check with arborists and tree-cutting services. They might or might not make their own compost, but they can tell you where they take the trimmings.
