overseeding and fertilizing lawns in the spring

We seeded a brand new lawn last October in Roanoke with a fescue blend. We had several inches of top soil and kept it well watered, so the results are patchy, but better than expected. It appears to need over-seeding this spring, but everything I read says to fertilize and seed in the fall. Should I overseed this spring? I have sent off a soil sample to VA tech, but should I wait until fall to fertilize? Thanks for your help.

You can seed this spring, just don't put a weed-n-feed product on the lawn as it inhibits germination of ALL seeds. You can just seed and fertilize this spring & fertilize again in the fall, then NEXT spring, do the weed-n-feed route. Or you can seed, then weed & feed after all the grass has sprouted and you've mown it the 1st time. Good luck

Lainey, also consider carefully whether fertilization is even necessary. Fertilizer runoff is a serious pollutant in both the Shenandoah Rover and the Chesapeake Bay.
