perennial orchid in northern VA?

| my friend has an orchid plant that she grows outside in her yard. it's hardy enough to withstand the cold temps and grow back every year.
does anyone know what variety this is and where i can buy it? my friend doesn't know because it was a gift. |

| Quite possibly it's 'bletilla striata' ... long, pleated leaves, little purple (or maybe white) flowers that look like miniature corsage orchids. Mine have lasted close to 10 years, so they're pretty tough. |

| Shows up at many nurseries, also with the packaged bulbs in the big-box stores. (Sometimes it's in the fall, with daffs, sometimes in the spring, with glads.) There are actually a couple of other terrestrial orchids that do well here, but Bletilla striata is far and away the easiest to find, and one of the easiest to grow. |
