Need advice on zone 7 evergreen, in exposed site, wet-ish clay soil, growing to 15-30' high, 12' wide max. Hope to get "specimen" tree for visible location. Would like unusual specimen....not a holly. Thanks....

Magnolia?
Despite your "not a holly" specification, maybe a variegated holly?

The unusual frequently requires a lot of coddling...and it sounds like a challenging site.

Sweetbay or Swamp Magnolia- but it's semi-evergreen. If we keep having winters like the last one, it will be evergreen.

You could limb up a bayberry- they make nice small trees, and the curving trunks can be specimen quality.
