| A neighbor gave me some plantings...4 groups with about 5-6 in each group (about 2-3" high)...and I planted them yesterday. My question is...should I have planted them with the stems above ground or should I have planted the stems too? I think I did it right--I just planted the roots-- but just wanted to make sure.......thanks...J |

| Hello from an amaranthus junkie, I think your amaranthus will be fine planted by the roots. Amaranthus are very easy to grow and very hardy but Ive found they self seed tremendously. I would suggest not putting them anywhere that you didnt want a bunch the following year. I was very interested to learn amaranthus leaves are edible and the seed can be used as a grain although it is said to be much grittier than other grains. Enjoy and happy gardening.
