Rhubarb in VA

Can anyone tell me what variety of Rhubarb will grow in Virginia? My mother grew it in PA but I heard it is too warm here. I still think you can grow it if you get the right variety and give it some shade.

Thanks.

I'd love to know more about this, my husband absolutely loves rhubarb! He grew up in rural New York and it grew great guns there.

I planted a variety I picked up at the local Farm Bureau. Couldn't tell you what it is right now, but checking with local nurseries is a good shot. It will take something like 3 years until you get a crop though, right?

Good luck. Side note- ever grow any horseradish around here?

Here is a link to the VA Tech publication which might help. Most people that have an established "patch" would gladly give you a start; it needs to be separated occasionally.

Regards,

Tom
